Who competes at the 2027 Europeans

The named list of gymnasts and groups for 2027 awaits official confirmation. Before travelling, check the nominative entries and start list. Entries may change: athletes from previous editions are not presented as confirmed participants.

Senior Individual

Gymnasts on their own with hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon.

Senior Groups

Five gymnasts at once, with breathtaking apparatus exchanges.

Junior Groups

The next generation opens the championships on Wednesday.

What is rhythmic gymnastics?

An Olympic sport that blends dance, acrobatics and apparatus handling to music. Judges score difficulty, execution and artistic expression. Gymnasts compete with four hand apparatus:

Hoop

Rolls, high throws and passing through the hoop.

Ball

Rolls, bounces, throws and catches coordinated with body movement.

Clubs

Mills, asymmetric moves and one-handed catches.

Ribbon

Spirals, snakes and throws that trace movement through the air.

Rhythmic gymnastics apparatus

Apparatus and competition format

Each category has a different programme. This guide’s calendar follows the provisional Pamplona event page; the format below follows the 2026–2027 European regulations.

Apparatus in Senior Individual

Senior Individuals: hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon. A gymnast may perform one to four qualification routines, depending on her federation’s entry.

Exercises in Senior Groups

Senior Groups: two routines, one using five identical apparatus and one mixed routine using two apparatus types.

Format in Junior Groups

Junior Groups: two routines with different apparatus; each routine uses five identical apparatus. The senior mixed format does not apply.

Check the FIG apparatus programme and event directives for the combinations and final session allocation.

How the individual final works

The best 20 qualifiers advance, with a maximum of two per country, plus one host gymnast if none has qualified. All perform hoop and ball; the top ten continue with clubs and ribbon. The four-routine total decides the medals.

Understanding the score

D means difficulty, A artistry and E execution. Applicable deductions are included in the final score. Use official results to check the breakdown and penalties.

All-around, apparatus and teams

The all-around combines routines; apparatus finals award separate titles. The team ranking combines senior individual and group results: it is different from a group of five gymnasts.
