Rhythmic Gymnastics Ribbons: Elegance, Colour and Precision

A rhythmic gymnastics ribbon is arguably the most spectacular apparatus in the sport, and also one of the hardest to master. Clean spirals and snakes take more than technique: you need a ribbon that responds to every movement. Here you will find our 5 and 6 metre ribbons, all FIG-approved, for training and competition.

Length guide and FIG rules (2025-2028 cycle)

Choosing the right length matters: it affects your control of the apparatus, how clean your spirals are and whether you avoid a penalty for non-regulation equipment. This is what the FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) apparatus norms set out:

  • 6 metre ribbon, seniors: the FIG requires at least 6 metres, in one piece. If you compete at senior level or in international competitions, this is your ribbon.
  • 5 metre ribbon, juniors: the FIG sets a minimum of 5 metres. It is also the usual length in many national categories; if in doubt, check with your coach or your federation’s rules.
  • Beginners: the youngest gymnasts often use shorter ribbons of 3 to 4 metres, as a training guide outside the FIG norms.

The ribbon must also be made of satin or a similar material, measure 4 to 6 cm wide and weigh at least 35 g without the stick (30 g for juniors), with the end that attaches to the stick reinforced by a double fold of about 1 metre. The stick measures between 50 and 60 cm, with a maximum diameter of 1 cm, and is attached to the ribbon by a cord or swivel no longer than 7 cm. All our ribbons, in both 5 and 6 metres, are FIG-approved.

Care: how to look after your ribbon

  • Ironing: iron it before every competition or important training session. A creased ribbon loses length and does not fly as precisely.
  • Ribbon winder: never store it in a tangle. A ribbon winder prevents deep creases and protects the fabric from snagging in your bag.
  • Washing: if you need to wash it, do so by hand in cold water with a mild detergent so as not to damage the fibres, especially on multicolour or gradient ribbons.

Frequently asked questions about the rhythmic gymnastics ribbon

How long should a rhythmic gymnastics ribbon be?
Under the FIG apparatus norms, at least 6 metres for seniors and 5 metres for juniors.

What is the difference between a 5 and a 6 metre ribbon?
One metre that makes a huge difference. The 6 metre ribbon demands more technique and more wrist strength to keep the pattern alive right to the end. That is why gymnasts move from 5 to 6 metres as they reach higher categories, never before mastering the 5 metre ribbon.

Does the ribbon come with a stick?
Compatible with any official 50–60 cm ribbon stick (stick sold separately).

How long is the ribbon stick?
Between 50 and 60 cm, with a maximum diameter of 1 cm. It may have a non-slip grip area of up to 10 cm.

Rhythmic Gymnastics Ribbons Made in Spain | Moisture-Resistant and FIG-Approved

5 and 6 metre ribbons made in Spain, all FIG-approved.

A ribbon should fly the same in the first element as in the last and keep its colour all season. That is why our ribbons are moisture-resistant and colourfast.

Moisture-resistant

Sweat and humidity in the gym can make a ribbon heavier and spoil its flight. Our ribbons are moisture-resistant, designed to stay light throughout the routine.

Vivid colours that don’t bleed

Designs in vivid colours, gradients and multicolour patterns, made to stand out on the floor.

  • No bleeding: our ribbons are colourfast, so they won’t stain your leotard.

Made in Spain and FIG-approved

All our ribbons, in both 5 and 6 metres, are FIG-approved (International Gymnastics Federation) and made in Spain. Compatible with any official 50–60 cm ribbon stick (stick sold separately).
